A catalog essay commissioned for Datascape, an exhibition at QUT's Cube Gallery, April 2013. The exhibition features works by artists including Aaron Koblin, Natalie Miebach, Fernanda Viegas and Martin Wattenberg, and many more. This essay departs from the recent mantra of data as "the new oil", and considers the alternative figurations of data presented in the works here.
