Mosaic combines environmental data-storytelling, generous collection browsing and visualisation and immersive sound and image to create a multimodal digital portrait of a wetland in the Western Lakes region of south-western New South Wales
Cameras and audio recorders deployed in late 2024 captured days worth of audio and over 1700 images and videos, documenting the lively inhabitants of this wetland. Mosaic explores how large-scale environmental data (and media) can be narrated, browsed and visualised, and how modern analytic techniques (like machine-learning annotations) can benefit engagement and interpretation for broad audiences.
Mosaic was commissioned by the office of the Commonwealth Environmental Water Holder through the Flow-MER program. It was created in collaboration with researchers from the Murrumbidgee Flow-MER team, and with the invaluable support of landholder Peter Morton.
